St. George Week 1

Hello Utah St. George Mission

Hallo Alle!

It’s official! I made it to Utah!! I’m sorry I dropped off for a couple weeks, getting packed up was super stressful but things are going really well, and I couldn’t be happier to be a missionary!

So, after missing my connecting flight and getting to spend 3 extra hours in SLC airport, I got to St. George where I was assigned to labor in Cedar City Utah!  This area is amazing, the weather is perfect, and the people are so nice.

A few things!

I am in a trio!! My companions are Sister Baker and my trainer Sister Allan, both of whom are now my very favorite people.  Sister Baker literally speaks the word of God when she opens her mouth, and Sister Allan spent a year in my original assignment, the Alpine German-speaking Mission, so we speak Deutsch together!!  Being in a trio is amazing, and I’m learning a ton.  We cover a whole stake, about 10 wards, so we get to go to church 3 times on Sunday!  Woo hoo!

(Editorial note:  Stake’s and Wards are congregations that are in a geographical boundary.  A Stake is much like a Diocese in the Catholic faith with Wards being individual congregations.)

My first week and I already helped put a friend on date for baptism!! His name is Jaxx, he is 10 years old, and has a super sweet testimony.  He wants to be baptized so that he can receive the Holy Ghost.  We also have Reshell on date, an older woman who is quite the character.  I wasn’t sure about her at first, but once I heard her testimony, I saw just how prepared she is for the gospel.  She is so ready to be baptized and I cannot wait to be a part of her big day.

highlight of the week:  I saw 4 dogs the other day.  I pet 3 of them.  God is good.

Another highlight:  we did a service project the first day, at the Happy Factory!! They make wood toy cars for kids and have the missionaries come pound in the wheels and oil/seal the wood.  I had a little skin reaction to the oil so I switched to pounding wheels and they let me take a couple home!! (pictures included.)

Spiritual thought:  yesterday was kind of a hard day.  My phone was being weird, and it was super frustrating.  All the stress of transitioning to the field kinda crashed down on me all at once.  A few weeks ago, I was in a mental place where I would have beat myself up for feeling sad, or frustrated.  I would have said that I need to be stronger, or do more.  Yesterday, as I was sad and frustrated, I felt the love of my Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ so strong as the gentle voice of the spirit told me that it was okay to feel that way, and that they understood what i was feeling and going through.  So, half my tears were sad, and the other half were in gratitude for the eternal love that is available to each of us.  I woke up the first morning and really wanted to go home.  I said “i’ll just survive until P-day, till Monday, and then I can decide”

(Editorial note: P-day, or preparation day, is the one day per week that missionaries get to take care of personal tasks like laundry, shopping, sight-seeing, etc.  Throughout the world, Monday is usually set aside for P-day but local authorities do sometimes change it.)

I can honestly say that there is nowhere else in the world I would rather be.
